ST. DOMINIC

This Catholic fine art print is centered on the founder of the Dominican order also called the Order of preachers, which now numbers in the thousands and has produced many great theologians as St. Thomas Aquinas and has established many great universities all around the world. In this painting St. Dominic is seen contemplating scripture after having read it. Above St. Dominic is a dove representing the Holy Spirit, who enlightens St. Dominic's understanding of what he has just read. Following his example, we all need to approach the word of God prayerfully, invoking the Holy Spirit before and after we read it in order to understand its depth, which is Jesus Christ himself and to better conform ourselves to him. On either side of St. Dominic are two circles each containing the five pointed star of the old covenant and the eight pointed star of the new covenant, which together point to and speak of Jesus - the Word of God. The circle at the bottom contains the Dominican Shield, which contains the words: to praise, to bless, and to preach in Latin. Just inside the Gothic arch are twenty bright light blue circles that represent the twenty mysteries of the rosary. During his preaching missions St. Dominic strongly encouraged the laity to pray- contemplate the mysteries of the rosary
