DANIEL IN THE LION DEN

This Catholic fine art print is centered on the event that occurred in the reign of King Darius the Mede, as recorded in the Book of Daniel. Out of envy of Daniel, his fellow supervisors and regional governors induced King Darius to pass a law that no one could worship or pray to any god except the king, knowing that Daniel would refuse to obey it and the king would be forced to have Daniel killed. Since all of the one hundred and twenty of them were insistent, he reluctantly passed the law, which Daniel, being a devout Jew could not obey and had Daniel thrown in the lion den. To Daniel King Darius said. “May your God, whom you serve so constantly, save you.” The next morning after a sleepless night King Darius found Daniel alive and well and rejoiced. He had Daniel released and wrote a decree to the nations and people of every language in his domain saying “ All peace to you! I decree that throughout my royal domain the God Of Daniel is to be reverenced and feared. He is the living God, enduring forever: his kingdom shall not be destroyed and his dominion shall be without end. He is a deliverer and savior, working signs and wonders in heaven and earth, and he delivered Daniel from the lions power.”

Above the central image is the Star of David. Above that is the great proclamation (shema) given to Israel by Moses: Hear O Israel the Lord thy God is One... Below the central image is the Holy Name of God in Hebrew letters YHWH, which translates in I AM WHO AM.
