This window is
centered on the Holy Name of God written in Hebrew letters. This was name given
by God himself when Moses asked him what he was to be called when he was to
tell the Israelites of their impending liberation from slavery. God told Moses
to tell the Israelites that his name was I AM WHO IS. Ever since them his name has been written in Hebrew with
these letters. To this day these
letters adorn many synagogues and written texts of Jewish sacred scripture.
Below the central image is an image of the Torah in a scroll. Above the central image are the words
hear o Israel, which are the beginning words of the great Shema given to Israel
by Moses in the book of Deutoronomy, where he declares to Israel that the Lord
God is one and that thee are to worship him with their whole mind and heart and
strength.
