OUR LADY OF SORROWS

Just as Jesus in his humanity was perfected in what he suffered and was raised up to the highest glory so was Mary perfected in her earthly suffering in imitation of her son and Lord and now reigns with him in heaven. Her suffering was always united with Christ’s suffering and bore great fruit. Using scripture the Church has outlined Mary’s sorrows as seven. The Seven Sorrows (or Dolores) are events in the life of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which are a popular devotion and are frequently depicted in art.
